EARLY INFLUENCES ON MY WRITING
Traveling along Interstate 70 was like a summer ritual growing up. A vacation was only a vacation if we left our home in Pennsylvania and traveled at least ten hours or more in our station wagon. Trees crowded the rolling hills of Ohio; neatly plowed rows of corn and other crops formed the landscape in Indiana and Illinois. I remember the slopes of Missouri and passing by the stadium for the Kansas City Royals. Golden wheatfields dotted with the heads of oil rigs pumping crude from the ground are memories in Kansas. Dark clouds with shafts of rain seen from a distance marked Wyoming.
The landscape was different from state-to-state. But my imagination wanted to explore the people I saw dashing through the trees or across the farm land. They were chasing each other; at times frolicking; other times they were being tied to a tree in an contest tinged with eroticism.
In my mind, they wore few clothes. Their senses were heightened in the games they played. And so my mind was alive, sifting through the imaginary scenes long before the days of video games and smart phones. Those memories are available for me to select and develop in my romance and erotic passions of today.
